The New American Theatre and The Odyssey Theatre EnsembleLos Angeles, CA (April 24, 2013) – Award-winning and critically-acclaimed theatre company The New American Theatre (formerly Circus Theatricals) announces that the company has once again pitched its tent at the Odyssey Theatre.

The first New American Theatre / Odyssey Theatre Ensemble co-production is William Shakespeare’s “A Midsummer Night’s Dream” directed by Jack Stehlin opening June 1, followed by Strindberg’s “The Creditors” in the Fall 2013, directed by David Trainer.

“We couldn’t be happier to be back at the Odyssey,” said New American Theatre Artistic Director Jack Stehlin.  Ron Sossi (Odyssey Theatre Artistic Director) and Beth Hogan (Odyssey Theatre Associate Artistic Director) have long been friends and supporters of our work and our many collaborations over the years have always been  fruitful and gratifying experiences. We feel like we’re home again.

The New American Theatre, then known as Circus Theatricals, called the Odyssey Theatre home from 2000-2005 and again in 2009. Co-productions included the acclaimed productions of “Hamlet,” “True West,” “Cherry Orchard,” “Tartuffe” and “Richard III,” among many others.

A Midsummer Night's DreamA Midsummer Night’s Dream

The Creditors by August StrindbergThe Creditors is August Strindberg’s sexy, savage and yes, darkly comic (and very modern) take on the battle of the sexes. In this toxic triangle, Adolph anxiously awaits the return of his wife Tekla to their seaside resort, comforted by his world-wise advisor Gustav. But Adolf soon finds himself in the center of a scintillating exchange of suspicion and revenge, as old wounds are opened, insecurities are laid bare and former debts are paid. The Creditors will play Wednesdays @ 8pm on October 30, November 13, December 4 Thursdays @ 8pm on October 24, Nov. 7, 21, Dec. 12 Friday – Sat. @ 8pm through Dec. 14 Sunday @ 2pm through Dec. 15 pay-what-you-can performances on October 18, 30, Nov. 15.
