Los Angeles, August 29, 2013 – The Community Development Commission of the County of Los Angeles (CDC) invites residents to a series of five community meetings seeking input to feed into and help shape the County’s annual “Action Plan.”  Individuals who live or work within the vicinity of the community meetings are encouraged to attend and articulate their local needs.

The 2014-2015 Action Plan will disperse approximately $30 million in housing and community development funds, and it describes proposed funding activities, which can include, for example, childcare programs, services for senior citizens, homebuyer assistance and home repair programs, homeless services, low interest business loans, graffiti removal, and street and sewer repairs.

The approximate $30 million in funds originate from the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD), which requires the Action Plan.  The funds are broken down into the following three program categories:

  • Approximately $22 million from the Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) Program, which funds a variety of services in low- and moderate-income communities.  Funding is contingent upon Congressional approval and, as the CDBG Program has experienced significant funding reductions since 2002, future funding levels are uncertain at this time;

  • Over $6.5 million from the HOME Investment Partnerships Program, which supplies funds for housing rehabilitation, first-time homebuyer programs, and the construction of housing for low- and moderate-income households; and

  • Over $1.5 million from the Emergency Solutions Grant Program that provides street outreach, emergency shelter, and homelessness prevention and rapid re-housing.

The above-mentioned programs are also subject to additional funding cuts as a result of the Federal sequestration.

The five community meetings will solicit input from residents, community organizations, and local interest groups.  Attendees will be asked to complete the “CDC Residents Survey,” which is also available on the CDC website at www.lacdc.org.  The County will then use that input in developing the Action Plan.

The list of meetings and a diagram that presents the Action Plan planning cycle are shown on the following pages.  For additional information on the meetings, please contact Brian Talbot at (626) 586-1752.

Individuals unable to attend the community meetings may submit written comments through Saturday, October 26, 2013, to Raymond Webster via e-mail at Raymond.Webster@lacdc.org, by fax (626) 943-3838, or mail (postmarked by October 26, 2013) to the Community Development Commission of the County of Los Angeles, CDBG Division, 700 W. Main Street, Alhambra, CA  91801.
