Undoubtedly, Art Hearts Fashion brought an array of designers during Los Angeles Fashion Week but there were two collections that were in a league of their own. Right off the heels of New York Fashion Week, celebrity designer Michael Costello showcased two new collections for spring/summer 2015. The presentations consist of designs from MT Costello, which is Stephanie Costello’s line in collaboration with relative Michael and the signature line, Michael Costello.
Guest buzzed with excitement in the dimly lit ballroom while waiting to view the most highly anticipated collections of Los Angeles Fashion Week. The MT Costello logo blazed bright onto a screen to let the audience know that the time had finally arrived for the show. Suddenly, two statuesque male models appeared with only the glow of a simulated fire behind them to reveal their massive frames. Like the gatekeepers to a world unknown, the men stood guard as the first model emerged from the darkness. Dark, provocative and edgy would best describe some of the designs that captivated the attention of the room. Models in various Avant-Garde face mask appeared in various lace, sheer and metallic garments in stunning silhouettes.
Darker in color than the typical spring collections seen on runways internationally, MT Costello delivered a collection of gowns with unbelievably intricate details. Aside from their signature gowns, there were well constructed separates spotted on the runway, which included body suits, tailored lace pants and pants suits with plunging necklines.
For those that can’t fathom a spring without floral…have no fear, there were a few pieces that are sure to fulfill your dainty desires.
I can’t deny that I love when fashion collides with other industries. Therefore, it was a pleasant surprise to see WNBA player, Skylar Diggins walking down the runway in a gorgeous metallic gold ensemble! Diggins closed the show by throwing up the dynasty sign (she’s signed to Rock Nation Sports), while beautiful models circled around her to provide the audience with a final glimpse of the stunning collection.
I had the pleasure of interviewing Michael Costello earlier in the year and within eight months; I’ve witnessed his star power increase monumentally. He has now dressed some of the biggest names in the industry, which include Beyonce, Lady Gaga and Kim Kardashian, to name a few.
Despite hearing the incredible reviews of Costello’s spring collection from industry colleagues, I refused to take a sneak peak before the Los Angeles presentation. I was certainly glad that I resisted temptation because what I saw from the front row…was brilliant.
The opening piece was a sky blue strapless gown that was the canvas for pastel florals in an abstract pattern. The petite model appeared to float as her mermaid style gown lusciously gathered on the top of the stalk white runway. The gorgeous pattern made its way into two other pieces, including a tailored blazer that can be perfectly paired with most spring staples.
Next up was a series of pieces that were reminiscent of a Japanese flower garden in the spring. Gowns comprised of sheer nude with intricate baby blue details were absolutely breathtaking.
Although it’s hard not to envision celebrities and A-List Starlets with every gown that appeared onto the runway, the strength of the collection was in its versatility. Within minutes the collection departed from lighter hues to darker gowns in rich jewel tones and textures that showcased the designers desire to satisfy every taste palate.
Overall, MT Costello and the Michael Costello collection were filled with intricate and versatile designs that were memorable long after they departed the runway.
