Dear Santa Monica Business Community,
This coming Tuesday, February 26th, City Staff will be presenting their revised proposal for a new Transportation Impact Fee (TIF), which will be charged to new development. Many cities have TIFs, and the Chamber supports the adoption of a TIF in Santa Monica; however, we are greatly concerned with TIF as proposed.
Particularly, the rates proposed are dramatically higher than those charged in neighboring cities, and we suspect this will be especially burdensome on neighborhood serving retail and workforce housing.
Today the Chamber submitted a letter to Council (Chamber TIF Letter below) expressing our concern with the proposed rates, and containing our recommendations for a more reasonable TIF. We highly encourage the business community to review the information below, and voice support for local business at Tuesday’s Council meeting. The meeting begins at 6:30pm at City Hall. The TIF is agenda item 7-E.
