“The Dia Diaries” Runway Recap: Private LA Showcase

On Sunday June 18th, one hundred invited guests and VIPs gathered for the Private LA Showcase at Brigade LA in downtown Los Angeles. The show featured exclusive designs by KUNST.NYC, Band of Gypsies and Maggie Barry. After the show, guests were invited to join the after party and gifting suite where several models and designers upped the ante by encouraging each other in a dance off. Sunday’s event showcased the continued diversity of the Los Angeles fashion scene, which during June alone, saw public events like MADE LA, which drew thousands of ticket holders with high profile and celebrity studded shows as well as private showcases for Moschino.

The first collection featured designs from KUNST.NYC. A renewable apparel brand using off the rack garments to create distinctive pieces reflecting today’s dynamic streetwear culture. The brand approaches each garment as one of a kind, giving the customer a personal experience at an affordable price. KUNST is an innovative brand defining a new direction in the apparel industry.

The brand continues to provide cleanly produced, sustainable, and eco-friendly product.

We had an opportunity to catch up with the designer Chris Mena about the inspiration for the latest collection. His said “This recent collection was a midway point between two of my current collections. Its main feature was ” A Day in the Lyfe” Shown September Fashion Week 2016 // As Well as looks included for my new Collection “Black, White, and the Intermediate” Scheduled to be shown during September 2017. I call these looks “Contingency Plan”.

Next up, Los Angeles based brand Band of Gypsies. The brand embodies the free spirit of femininity and bohemian aesthetic that started at the height of the late 60’s rock and roll scene. Taking inspiration from the greats like Stevie Nicks, Joni Mitchell and Janice Joplin, the line appears current yet vintage. The founders travel the world for inspiration like true gypsies. With unique prints and styling there is a strength of pattern and play that keeps “band of gypsies” relevant and fresh.

Closing the show, Maggie Barry. A designer and costumer of television and stage, a favorite among stars and stylists alike. The LA based designer has dressed countless celebrities including: Nicki Minaj, Lady Gaga, Katy Perry, Ke$ha, Shakira, Austin Mahone, Jason Derulo, and Demi Lovato. Maggie Barry is known for creating custom designs for shows like: The Voice, So You Think You Can Dance, Face Off, The Tonight Show, Amazing Race, and countless more.
