In an era where anti-aging moisturizers, eye creams, and getting botox injections are on everyone’s wish list, it is surprising to see the rise of young girls going to the hair salon to bleach their hair gray. Not only is it a daring and bold statement, it is also one of the biggest beauty trends of 2015.
For years we’ve been subjected to commercials that encourage women to cover their gray with blonde, black or red dyes. Now, the younger generation has beauty executives scratching their heads at the gray hair trend. Social media platforms such as Instagram and Twitter are full of beautiful women showing pictures of their bleached hair in various hues of silver and gray with the hashtag #grannyhair. This is not the first time gray hair has gotten attention by the media. Celebrities such as Lady Gaga, Nicole Richie, and Rihanna have dared to go grey before the hype.
For the younger granny trend followers, going grey takes serious effort in the beauty department, with the cost of damage to the hair. The process requires a lot of bleaching, so it is important to also invest in good conditioning treatments during the transformation. This trend obviously has advantages for those that opt for gray extensions, which allows freedom from timely and costly hair dying regimes.
So the question is…Do you dare to go gray?
