Fashion inspiration is not always found on the runways or on the streets. Sometimes the most stylish women with a great fashion sense are right on our television screens. From the sassy Cookie Lyon to the intelligent Olivia Pope, we rounded up some of our favorite signature looks by strong female characters on television.
There is no one whose outfits are as polished as Olivia Pope in the hit series “Scandal”. As a Washington DC political fixer who runs a crisis management company, she needs to be decisive, and that is reflected in her wardrobe. Olivia, played by the one and only Kerry Washington, has become a fashion inspiration for hardworking and professional women. With power suits, structured trench coats, peplum jackets, and a closet full of Prada bags, it is no wonder women have been all over her style. Olivia wears a lot of monochromatic colors including white, creams, and pastels that differentiate her from others in Washington. Pants are a key element, proving women do not have to be dressed in a skirt to be ladylike. She does not wear a lot of accessorizes, but her long leather gloves are often spotted. Pope’s style really represents a classy chic businesswoman.

Jessica Day (Jess)
Another one of our favorite TV characters that inspires our style choices is the bubbly Jess in the series “New Girl”. Jessica Day, played by Zooey Deschanel, is a young teacher who finds herself living with three male roommates after answering an ad on Craigslist. She is funny, girl and a bit awkward. The 60’s vintage inspired clothing with a few personalized touches perfectly go with her personality. Jess knows how to blend bright colors and bold patterns to create fun outfits. If she is not wearing a pair of fitted jeans, Jess is in a skirt or dress, usually paired with leggings and flats. Most of the time she sticks with A-line or skater skirts that are fitted at her waist and flare out. Her vintage accessories usually complete her look whether it be a polka dot scarf, a headband, or anything with a bow on it.

House of Cards’ Claire Underwood, as played by Robin Wright, is no doubt a boss when it comes to power dressing. As she is the First Lady in the latest (third) season, her style is now bolder than before. Besides the fact that her husband is placed into office, Underwood is also appointed as US ambassador to the United Nations, meaning Claire also has to dress for the new job. From structured dresses, silk gowns by Ralph Lauren that she wears to dinners, to Marc Jacobs’s blouses matching sharply tailored pencil skirts, Mrs. Underwood looks minimalistic-chic in every episode. Her well-tailored and elegant wardrobe is mainly built in monochrome palettes of grey, creams, black, white, and a little bit of navy. As First Lady, her style perfectly embodies her strong, smart, and hard-working character.

Cookie Lyon, played by the phenomenal Taraji P. Henson, may have been released from prison, but her character in the hit series “Empire” is undoubtedly one of the most stylish women at the moment on television. The style of this fierce and powerful woman is glamorous and outrageous at the same time. Her wardrobe is filled with lots of luxurious fur coats, bold blazers with animal prints, form-fitting dresses, bright colors, and sparkles. She matches her outfits with bold shoes, statement necklaces, and golden accessories. Her looks demand authority and drama. At this point, Cookie is a style icon and we cannot wait for her looks in Empire’s upcoming season!
All cheetah everything!
This bold and highly accessorized outfit just screams Cookie Lyon. Her fuchsia lipstick matches her manicure, and her highly detailed dress works perfectly with her signature purple fur.

Our favorite girl in the famous superhero show “Arrow” is Felicity Smoak, played by Emily Bett Rickards. She is a MIT grad who is a member of Team Arrow, a group that mainly focuses on fighting against crime and corruption. Felicity’s character is portrayed very intelligent and a total computer nerd, but that does not mean a lady does not know how to dress well! The chic lady likes to dress up in cap sleeved and cutout dresses or blouses with skirts that show her femininity with a conservative twist. She always wears her stylish glasses matched with her fuchsia lipstick, which is one of her fashion staples. She also likes to wear jewelry, mostly bangle earrings or pearl necklaces.
