Going out on a first date with a guy can be nerve-racking. All kinds of emotions run through your head the second you realize that he asked you out: You’re excited, nervous, happy, impatient, confused on what to wear. Same old outfits in your closet? No worries, we’ve got some tips and tricks to help you style them accordingly to make them look like you just got yourself a brand new wardrobe. Besides, getting ready for a date should never be this complicated and stressful.
Relax. It’s as simple as that. Take a quick breather and calm your entire body. There is no need to stress about this date or you will just give yourself more pressure.
Simple first date? He’s taking you to a dinner and a movie. Yes, first impressions are everything, so of course you want to look your absolute best. Wear something flirty and fun, but also something you’re confident in. Confidence is everything and it can set the tone of the night. Depending on your style, wear a dress that will accentuate your curves, but leaves a lot to the imagination. Choose an A-Line dress if you want to show off your waist. If you want to keep it casual but still sexy, maybe a dressy polo dress with a cardigan over. Now if you decide you want to show a bit of cleavage, choose a short wrap-dress that will make you look classy rather than provocative and pretentious. Not really wanting to wear a dress? That’s totally fine. Pairing up a loose blouse with a flowy skirt can work just as well.
If you’re the type of girl that feels more comfortable in pants, wear your favorite pair of jeans with an off-the-shoulder top or a dressy silk top. If you’re feeling extra bold, opt for a stylish jumpsuit and pair that off with a statement necklace.
You want to wear a color that makes your complexion pop! If you’re not tan, don’t go for a white or pastel color, go for a brighter color like red, royal blue or even army green. By choosing vibrant colors, it will instantly make you appear brighter. A little black dress is also another great option. If you’re tan or have a darker complexion, choose the opposite, wear white and pastel colors; they complement your skin and are the colors that are right for you.
In both cases, it’s always nice to wear a colorful print if the date is during the day.
Accessories can make or break an outfit! Especially when it comes to the location. If it’s during the night, go for the type of jewelry that you would normally wear, gold or silver. If you wear gold, choose a simple bracelet or a bangle (depending on the look you’re going for). You can also pair your gold bracelet and necklace with small pearl earrings. If you want to wear silver wear them with small diamond earrings. Always wear your watch, in case it gets to a point that you’re not interested in the guy, that way you can casually come up with an excuse that starts with “ Oh my, look at the time…”
A first date is not the time for your feet to hurt. Wear heels that makes you feel sexy, but are also comfortable. Pumps or wedges should be your options. Go for a pair that’s a good compromise between comfortable and seductive.
If you’re not the type of girl who wears heels, you can always wear gold, silver or shiny oxford shoes. Even a pair of espadrilles or loafers will work. If you opt for that last option, make sure you don’t wear it with a jumpsuit, a tight dress or fitted skirt.
This is not the time to experiment “ the contouring” trick of make up. Keep it simple! Wear make-up in a way that will highlight your best features. Put on some red lipstick if you want to add a touch of glam. Don’t try to transform your look, a little blush, eyeliner and lipstick should do. You have to make sure that you look approachable and fun. If it’s a dinner, put your hair down and add some curls; if it’s a casual date, put you hair up in a ponytail.
If you are going on a date during the day just to grab a coffee or watch a game, keep it as casual as possible. If you’re a girly girl, wear babydoll or a sheath dress. If you’re the pants type of girl, wear jeans with a white tee but to give it a more fashionable touch wear it with a cool fitted blazer, leather jacket and boots.
