“The Dia Diaries” The BeautyCon LA Festival Review

Makeup and fashion enthusiasts patiently waited in line on July 11th to get into one of Los Angeles’ biggest beauty events — BeautyConLA. Various celebrities attended the BeautyCon LA Festival in partnership with Cosmopolitan, Seventeen and Cosmo For Latina. The event also brought together guests, bloggers and vendors for a day full of makeup, meetups and panels that both educated and entertained. BeautyCon’s goal is to “bring fans, brands, and creators together in one place” and that is exactly what the bustling, exciting event did.

The connections between YouTube content creators, brands and fans began the minute guests walked into BeautyCon. Guests were greeted by a carnival-like scene full of makeup and fun that included a huge ferris wheel, food trucks and a stage where fans danced to the sounds of performers like Becky G and Megan Nicole. Several YouTubers also held meetups in tents outside of the venue that allowed eager fans to meet and take cute selfies with some of their favorite YouTube personalities.

“You feel like you know these people because you watch their videos everyday or every week and to be able to see them and actually meet them is such a cool opportunity,” said Morgan Vee, who was “super excited” to meet one of her favorite YouTubers, Kandee Johnson.

Guests were given the opportunity to get their makeup done, take a peek at the most fabulous makeup lines and attend panels held by celebrities like Zendaya, Olivia Culpo and Joe Zee while at BeautyCon.

The outdoor festivities, however, were no match for the glamorous commotion happening inside. Bright decorations lit up the creative space and welcomed guests as soon as they walked in. An entire showroom, filled with excitement and glamour, not only gave guests a marketplace for makeup and beauty products, but that also served as a learning space for those interested in learning more about beauty and about themselves. Booths full of makeup, clothes and food were interwoven between interactive sets and stages where makeup artists gave tips on how to recreate the hottest makeup trends. The showroom was made complete with pink, decorated walls that made for the perfect backdrop to a selfie. Different booths, like NYX Cosmetics’, treated guests to a new look with the perfect liner, lip and contour. Although BeautyCon was centered around makeup and cosmetics, panels were also held to discuss topics like the business of makeup and being true to oneself.

Many celebrities also joined in on the fun at BeautyCon. Singer and songwriter Christina Milian walked down the pink carpet with her sisters to talk about her clothing line and about her favorite make-up trends which included a not-too-dramatic smokey-eye. Also in attendance was the flawless singer and actress Zendaya, who talked about makeup’s ability to inspire and empower.

“I think a lot of people are here for makeup but it’s not because we feel like we need it, it’s because we enjoy it and it’s fun,” Zendaya said. I feel like there’s a certain level of confidence you have to have to be able to wear makeup and to be able to not wear makeup and to honestly just be who you are.”

Celebrities like Zendaya, Julia Kelly, Alyson Stoner and Madison Pettis, Megan Nicole and Christina Milian and her sisters were stunning on the pink carpet at BeautyCon.

The 4th annual BeautyCon in Los Angeles amassed thousands of guests, creators and celebrities to celebrate makeup, fashion and empowerment. Guests were given the once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to meet their favorite YouTubers, connect with other makeup fanatics and to inspire their creativity.
