“The Dia Diaries” The Ombré Effect

The ombré trend has proved its versatility throughout the seasons, providing the perfect hint of chic to hair and even adding glamourous detail to nails and nail art. As we get ready to welcome the fall once again, we’re also starting to see the ombré trend moving into makeup. The ombré lip has been popping up on our radar through several beauty and makeup Instagram accounts and we’re completely obsessed with it!

To create an ombré effect on the lip, you will need a dark lip liner and a lighter lipstick — the dark liner will outline and the lighter shade will highlight the center of the lips. This technique is very easy to recreate and can give your lips definition and texture. As you would do with any lip color, begin with blotting some foundation on your lips to create a blank, monotone canvas. Starting with a blank canvas can allow for the true lip color to pop and can also allow you to modify your lip shape.

Once you’ve done that, outline your lips with the dark liner and shade in the corners with the dark liner. The dark liner creates a perfect outline and shape for the lips. We’d definitely recommend shaping your upper lip to your liking; it’s really easy to create a perfect heart shape when you’re working with liner! Then, take the lighter shade and fill in the centers of the lip, carefully blending in the light lipstick with the dark liner around the edges. If you feel that your color needs more blending, pop a tiny bit of clear gloss on a lip brush and blend the corners until the colors are just right! Your ombre look is now ready to make its glamorous appearance in your next selfie or dinner date!

For the summer, we recommend trying out this look with nude or soft pink colors. We highly recommend trying out MAC’s Cremestick Liner in Beurre ($16 on Maccosmetics.com) and NYX Cosmetics Matte Lipstick in Nude ($6 on nyxcosmetics.com).

Or, if you want to perfect the ombré for fall, darker colors will also work perfectly! We’re in love with NYX Cosmetics Slim Lip Pencil in Cabaret ($3.50 on nyxcosmetics.com) and Melt Cosmetics Matte lipstick in Belladonna2 ($19 on meltcosmetics.com)

This trend is so versatile and is perfect throughout the year. Looks like ombré is here to stay!
