“The Dia Diaries” Does A Runway Recap: Jason Ryan

On Sunday October 26th an elite list of attendees gathered high above the city for Metropolitan Fashion Week, held at the breathtaking Greystone Mansion. Metropolitan Fashion Week events are held in dramatic, non-traditional venues that showcase not just best fashion designers or costume designers, but the most beautiful venues each city has to offer. Although there were many talented designers in attendance, there was undeniably a stand out star.

The show commenced with Avant-garde menswear designer, Jason Ryan. The sprawling garden estate provided the perfect backdrop for the romantic yet edgy collection entitled, Resentment. Run. Evil. The statuesque male models appeared into the garden wearing pale body suits that covered them from head to toe with ornate headpieces that sat as crowns on their heads. The collection showcased various textures and soft luxurious fabrics that worked together in unique ways.

Typically Avant-garde collections lack the cohesive element needed to translate the brands story, however, Jason Ryan succeeded in delivering pieces that were strong on their own but also together in the collection comprised of 10 menswear and 7 womenswear pieces.

The most striking element was the soft blush hue of every garment. I had an opportunity to speak with Jason Ryan after the show to find out what inspired his collection. “In my last collection “Love,Corrida” I showed a blush leather jacket with chiffon ruffles on one side. I took that piece, reconstructed and incorporated it into the new collection. That one piece inspired the whole new collection that you saw today.”

JASON RYAN features masterfully created ready-to-wear and avant-garde high end menswear. Each collection is highly stylized and driven by a strong central theme. The designs are known for their impeccable artistry and thoughtful embellishment. Often full of high-drama, the meticulous detailing and innovative structures of the designs create an encompassing sensory experience. The current 2014 Holiday Collection, Resentment.Run.Evil, features several womenswear pieces showcasing a feminine edge. Opera singer Nicolette Holman captivated the audience with haunting vocals that presented the dramatic and final gown of the collection.
