There are two types of people in the world. Those that are familiar with fantasy epics like The Lord of the Rings, and those that couldn’t fathom a world without Gandalf and Frodo. The latter of the two are often referred to as nerds, geeks, dorks, even dweeb is used from to time. But nerd is usually the term that sticks.
Well now you can watch nerds square off against one another in debate style arguments over all things geeky, (would win in a fight, Manny Pacquiao or Ferris Bueller?), when the Upright Citizens Brigade hosts its Tournament of Nerds showcase. Hosted by comedians Hal Rudnick and Justin Donaldson, each nerd gets to make their case, with a 30-second rebuttal, until a panel of judges decides who gets to move on to the next round. Past judges have included Nick Thune of Conan, Marc Andreyko of Captain America, and Trevor Moore from IFC’s wildly hysterical sketch comedy show, Whitest Kids U’Know. Think of it like a presidential debate… but a lot less nerdier!
The next Tournament of Nerds show will take place on Saturday, November 19th at 11:59pm (not midnight!) at the Upright Citizens Brigade Theatre in Hollywood. Tickets will run you 5 bucks and can be purchased on the day of the event. To learn more about this, and other nerdy events the UCB has to offer, please visit http://losangeles.ucbtheatre.com/.
