BEAVERTON, Ore.– Vernier Software & Technology’s Video Physics for iOS and Graphical Analysis™ for iPad ® were named winners in the 2013 Best Educational Software Awards (BESSIE Awards) from The ComputED Gazette. The awards program recognized Video Physics for iOS in the High School Physics category and Graphical Analysis for the iPad in the Multi-Level Data Analysis category.
“Video Physics and Graphical Analysis are robust, yet intuitive, apps that allow teachers and students to conduct scientific investigations both in the classroom and in the field,” said David Vernier, co-founder of Vernier and a former physics teacher. “The recognition from the BESSIE Awards reinforces the value of these digital tools in creating engaging teaching and learning opportunities.”
Video Physics brings physics video analysis to iPhone®, iPod touch® and iPad®. Students and teachers can capture video of an object in motion, mark its position frame by frame, and set the scale using a known distance. Video Physics then draws trajectory, position, and velocity graphs for the object. The app also allows for sharing of video, graphs, and data to other apps, such as Graphical Analysis. Data and video can even be emailed for use with computers running Vernier’s Logger Pro software.
Graphical Analysis, which was also recently named a finalist in the Mobile (app) Solution category of the EdTech Digest Awards, helps support hands-on, collaborative scientific learning. As part of the Connected Science System®, Graphical Analysis allows students and teachers with iPads to wirelessly collect sensor data in real time from LabQuest 2 and then analyze, annotate and save that data on the iPad using the app’s multi-touch and advanced networking and exporting capabilities.
The BESSIE Awards, now in its nineteenth year, target innovative and content-rich programs and websites that provide parents and teachers with the technology to foster educational excellence. To learn more about the 2013 BESSIE Awards, visit http://computedgazette.com/page3.html.
