Franklin Roosevelt added,
“In politics, nothing happens by accident. If it happens, you can bet it was planned that way.”
So these voices from the past cry out to us in unison, all is not as it appears. We live in a historic age, with an explosion of media power and contraction of corporate ownership. We live in an historic age of near perpetual war, with the slyest cheaters still hiding, with accidents, near accidents, amazing spectacles and subtle slights of tongue.
With amazing subtlety President Obama during his State of the Union message said, he was committed to assisting “responsible borrowers.” By adding that one simple adjective “responsible,” Obama had justified helping very few, while at the same time, justified the ignoring of the many. However, the Federal government had made no such distinction of responsibility in assisting the banking aristocracy, now did they?
In the United States, if you suggest or propose that there are any aristocracies, hidden hands or slyest cheaters in hiding, your voice is quickly relegated to the ranks of the tin foil hat society. In this country alone, prominent men are always murdered by a lone nut with gun.
On February 27, 1933 the German Reichstag building mysteriously caught fire and was nearly destroyed. Just three weeks before, Adolf Hitler had become the Chancellor of Germany. Just ten days before the fire, the new chancellor had had told his lieutenant Joseph Goebbels, that he would, burn the Communists out of Germany.
In this new government, Hermann Goering was named as President of the Reichstag. Goering resided across the street from the Reichstag building in a home with an underground passage leading into the Reichstag. On the night of the 27th, Goering was the last of the government officials to arrive on the scene. He was described as red faced and out of breath and immediately declared the fire to be the beginning of a Communist uprising.
Dutch Communist Marinus van der Lubbe was quickly arrested and charged with the crime. Van der Lubbe had been first arrested several days before, after making threats to burn down government buildings in a bar, only to be released by the authorities a day or so before the Reichstag fire. Van der Lubbe was a patsy, a fall guy, an unknown man who fit the bill.
From “The Rise and Fall of the Third Reich”, General Franz Halder stated in an affidavit that Hermann Goering had joked about setting the Reichstag Fire,
“On the occasion of a lunch on the Führer’s birthday in 1943, the people around the Führer turned the conversation to the Reichstag building and its artistic value. I heard with my own ears how Göering broke into the conversation and shouted: ‘The only one who really knows about the Reichstag building is I, for I set fire to it.’ And saying this he slapped his thigh.”
After the Reichstag fire, Adolf Hitler pushed through the Reichstag his Enabling Acts, which stripped the German citizenry of their civil liberties and civil protections. An old Roman maxim asks, “Who gains from this?” Occam’s razor answers, the simplest argument is most probably correct.
The accused assassin of President Kennedy, Lee Harvey Oswald tells the press, “they’ve taken me in because of the fact that I lived in the Soviet Union…I’M JUST A PATSY!” Oswald had defected to the Soviet Union at the height of the Cold War and despite renouncing his US citizenship, was allowed to return to the United States with his Russian bride in tow. Whether you believe Oswald to be the assassin or not, there is more to him than meets the eye.
James Earl Ray, the convicted assassin of Dr. Martin Luther King was an escaped convict and high school drop out. Despite living on the run and unable to find employment, Ray drove a two year old Ford Mustang. He had a nose job and took dancing lessons. Ray arrived in Los Angeles and attended bar tending school, then drove cross country ending up in Atlanta Georgia. He drove from Atlanta to Birmingham, Alabama where he purchased a Remington 30-06 rifle, a scope and a box of twenty cartridges.
Then on April 2, 1968 Ray drove from Atlanta to Memphis, taking a room in a boarding house located behind the Lorraine Motel. After the assassination, Ray flees to Canada, hiding out for a month before boarding an aircraft bound for London. How was this unemployed man supporting himself? Ray claimed he had a CIA handler named Raul, who was funneling him money. Ray was arrested in London in possession of not one, but two, phony passports. Prior to his arrest for murdering Dr. King, the most serious criminal charge against this high school drop out had been for holding up a grocery store, a crime he had been arrested for within an hour.
The assassin of Robert Kennedy, Sirhan Sirhan claims to have no memory of the crime. He claims complete amnesia and on the night of his arrest, Sirhan was taped as he explained, “I was drinking coffee and then people were choking me.” During the 1950’s and 60’s the CIA, along with intelligence agencies on both sides of the Iron Curtain, experimented with a drug derived from a Colombian plant called Scopolamine. The drug is capable of stripping a victim of their free will, while at the same time destroying their memory.
Is it possible, sure, it’s possible, but is it probable? We have no way of knowing for sure. Due to lax security at the crime scene and a botched investigation by a young Daryl Gates, coupled with missing and admittedly destroyed evidence, forces us to conjure up these questions.
Anytime an official story doesn’t fit the facts on the ground, there should be questions asked. We know with reasonable certainty why the Challenger exploded and we know with reasonable certainty why the Titanic sank, but we don’t know why building seven of the World Trade Center complex failed. We don’t know how Lee Harvey Oswald fired three shots in less than six seconds with a bolt action rife, and was then spotted three floors down in an employee lounge, just 90 seconds later.
We do know that after 9/11 the Congress passed the USA Patriot Act. We do know the Neocon think tank “The Project for a New American Century” had prophesied, that what America needed, “Was a new Pearl Harbor.” These things were troubling then and as troubling as Lee Harvey Oswald’s palm print not being found on the murder weapon until after Oswald had been shot dead, by yet another lone nut with a gun.
Let’s go back to April 18, 1995 when the Alfred P. Murrah Federal Building in Oklahoma City was destroyed by a bomb blast. The bombing killed 168 people and wounded 680 and did over $650 million in damages. Timothy McVeigh was stopped by an Oklahoma State Trooper less than ninety minutes after the crime. McVeigh was driving a car without a license plate and was charged with unlawfully carrying a hand gun.
The media image of Timothy McVeigh was that of a militia movement member, Ku Klux Klan sympathizer and right wing malcontent. But Timothy McVeigh was also a decorated war hero from the first Gulf War. He was a combat engineer; meaning his job in the Army was working with explosives and blowing things up. He along with accomplice Terry Nichols allegedly perpetrated a series of burglaries and armed robberies netting $60, 000 in weapons and 350 pounds of Tovex high explosives.
According to McVeigh, they simply drilled the screws out of the lock at a construction company and walked away with 350 pounds of high explosives. No bells went off or alarms sounded, no FBI or ATF investigations were begun. Next, Nichols purchased 2,000 pounds of ammonium nitrate fertilizer. When completed, the bomb weighed close to 5,000 pounds and completely filled the back of the Ryder truck in a carefully arranged shaped charge. The bomb had cost over $5,000 to construct, funded by an out of work drifter.
McVeigh, on the night before the bombing had parked this tag less get away car two blocks over with a note asking, “Please don’t tow.” Having never parked in Oklahoma City myself, I can’t say, but most places where I’ve ever lived, even a car marked “property of Jesus” would get towed. He parks the Ryder truck containing the bomb directly under the daycare center in the Murrah building’s drop off zone. McVeigh had earlier ruled out a 40 story government building in Little Rock as a target, because of the presence of a florist shop in the building. McVeigh later claimed he had no knowledge of the daycare center in the Murrah building. That makes perfect sense doesn’t it, a drop off zone directly under a daycare center, but with no signage?
After McVeigh’s arrest, authorities find a business card in the backseat of his car and on it is written, “TNT $5 a stick. Need more.” McVeigh is carrying pages from the fictional novel “The Turner Diaries” about a white Supremacists group, who blow up FBI headquarters to incite revolution. McVeigh is also identified by Lee McGowan of the Dreamland Hotel. McVeigh had registered at the Dreamland Hotel under his own name after renting the Ryder Truck under an assumed name. McGowan also remembered McVeigh as parking a Ryder truck in the hotel parking lot.
Only, McGowan had at first said there were two Ryder trucks parked in the hotel parking lot that night. Okalahoma City TV station KWTV reported, “That police had located a second bomb on the east side of the Murrah Federal Building and had defused it.” Timothy McVeigh’s lead attorney Stephen Jones had offered allegations that McVeigh was a “designated patsy.” He argued that the bombing could not have been carried out by two men alone. Federal Judge Matsch, ruled independently that the evidence of a larger conspiracy was too insubstantial as to be admissible.
So who gains from this, what could be the purpose of a government conspiracy? Almost one year to the date of the Oklahoma City bombing, Congress passed with broad bi-partisan support, the Anti-terrorism and Effective Death Penalty Act of 1996.
The law placed strict limits on Habeas Corpus appeals and under cut the power of Federal Judges to grant relief. The bill also stripped away the right of appeal to the Supreme Court and places the authorization for such Habeas Corpus claims into the hands of the Attorney General. Slowly, the laws of a nation and the rights of a people are stripped away. Oklahoma City, and then 9-11, each an escalation, each more powerful than the crime which came before. It almost defies logic that criminal masterminds could so magnify the results, without some sort of coordination.
