Wonder Women Tech is a free conference highlighting female tech entreprenuers and innovators and will include a Wonder Women Hacks “Hackathon”, a Time Warner Media Challenge, Microsoft Learning Center, A List keynote speakers, panelists, and opportunities for attendees to be exposed to S.T.E.A.M. careers. This weekend of events celebrating women in tech will be hosted by the City of Los Angeles, Mayor Eric Garcetti, California Assemblywoman Autumn Burke, Controller Ron Galperin, Councilmember Mike Bonin, the Los Angeles Commission on the Status of Women, and Wonder Women Hacks.
Wonder Women Tech will take place on February 27th – March 1st, 2015 and will highlight women innovators and leaders in S.T.E.A.M., igniting a movement for a better city and planet for women and girls. This event will include a 36 Hour Hackathon and Media Challenge which will engage graphic/UX designers, web/app developers, filmmakers, technologists, and Content Creators.
Hackers and innovators will converge at The Hangar, an historic airplane hangar once owned by Howard Hughes, which housed the Spruce Goose, to create technology and media/video projects that will raise awareness and solve challenges facing women and girls.
WWT INNOVATOR AWARDS RECEPTION On the evening of Friday, February, 27, 2015, WWT will kick of the conference honoring key female trailblazers in S.T.E.A.M. who are making an impact as innovators in their fields. Google and Barefoot Wine & Champagne host this awesome jump start with appetizers, drinks, and elite networking!
WONDER WOMEN HACKS HACKATHON Hackathon participants made up of high school students, college students, and industry professionals, will form teams to respond to challenges using the City of Los Angeles and White House Office of Technology data to produce supportive technology in the forms of websites and mobile applications that will benefit women and girls!
TIME WARNER MEDIA CHALLENGE Video content creators, entertainers, filmmakers, and social media enthusiasts will form teams to create video content, PSA’s, and short film presentations. Time Warner Cable will air the winning content and make the shorts available OnDemand and their YouTube channel. The media challenges are set up to raise awareness of issues that may impacting the life of a young girl or solve a current problem impacting women and girls in Los Angeles and beyond.
JUNIOR INNOVATORS CAMP LA’s Best and Playwerks will offer special coding classes and S.T.E.A.M. curriculum for young girls and boys. 40 kids will participate on Saturday and 40 kids will participate on Sunday.
PIONEERING WOMEN EXHIBIT Are you a female tech entrepreneur? Do you have an app or technology that has a predominantly female target audience? Are you a female innovator with a new technology? We will reserve a space for you to exhibit your technology in the Pioneering Women Exhibit. It will be open to the public on Sat, Feb 28th, and Sunday Mar 1st, 2015 from 10 am – 5 pm inside The Hangar, which will feature demos, products, information, and technology created by pioneering women.
KEYNOTES, WORKSHOPS AND BREAKOUT SESSIONS All keynotes, workshops and breakout sessions will be available to ticketed participants on Saturday from 10 am to 6 pm and Sunday between 11 am and 4 pm.
