Busy highways, stressful jobs and the pressures associated with daily life often leave people feeling overwhelmed and unbalanced, which often leads to various illnesses within the body. Powering down and achieving a deeper sense of clarity can be tough for even the most laid back Angelino. The Dia Diaries headed to Beverly Hills in pursuit of relaxation through acupuncture but what we discovered was far more than we could have ever imagined.
Nestled in one of the most affluent zip codes in the country, is ReNuMi Wellness Center. After escaping the bustling streets below, you immediately feel as if you’ve been transported to another world upon entering the wellness center. ReNuMi Wellness Center believes that the quintessence of life is characterized by the quality of our relationships that we encounter on a daily basis, which is so genuinely demonstrated by the owner, Dr. John J. Kim, LAc, PhD.
For over 30 years, Dr. John J. Kim has been a resource for those seeking an alternative to Western medicine. A licensed acupuncturist and the founder of ReNuMi Wellness Center, Dr. Kim specializes in a unique healing approach that addresses the physical, mental, emotional, and spiritual wellbeing of his patients.
My expectation was to fill out pages of paperwork, answer a few generic questions before being pricked like a pin cushion for an hour. Dr. Kim shatters that stigma within minutes of the one-on-one consultation by creating a safe, warm and compassionate environment. By providing clients the ability to rid themselves of emotional toxins before their treatment, Dr Kim is able to fulfill his mission by enhancing each person’s emotional and physical well-being in order to improve and maintain harmony with the inner and outer world.
After the consult, clients lay down comfortably to receive an acupuncture treatment that’s specifically tailored to target certain areas of the bodies. Acupuncture is a practice based on the “pattern of disharmony” and treating accordingly. Acupuncture also has endless benefits like the relief of stress or tension, chronic pain, anxiety, headaches and infertility…not to mention that it helps promote weight loss! After having the painless thin needles strategically placed, Dr. Kim tucked me in, covered my eyes with a sleep mask and bid me “good night.” With only the sound of my heartbeat, my thoughts escaped my mind that often holds them captive and I quickly drifted off to sleep in absolute relaxation.
After one of the most incredibly euphoric experiences of my life, I had a few questions for Dr. Kim.
People face emotional issues every day, how often do you believe that acupuncture should be incorporated into someone’s life to help them overcome daily pressures?
Typically to start off, I’d suggest 2-3 times a week, which is good enough to get the benefit that you want within in a couple weeks.
Is there a specific type of acupuncture for weight loss?
First, balance is essential in the body and in order to achieve balance, the body has to fully relax. Lifestyle and eating are a major factor in weight loss but acupuncture and herbs can help the process. By using acupuncture we decrease your appetite, for instance, if you get acupuncture three times in a row, you will notice that your stomach gets full faster, which ultimately causes you to reduce your food intake.
In addition to traditional acupuncture, Dr. Kim Dr. Kim offers a unique alternative to the standard ‘acupuncture facial,’ called Advanced Regeneration Therapy, more commonly known as A.R.T. Dr. Kim’s patented method of acupuncture used for The ReNuMi A R T Acupuncture Face Lift attests to a new wave of beauty treatment being introduced to Hollywood by swapping the Botox needle for the acupuncture needle instead for a complete Face, Mind, Life overhaul.
